Course Description

This practical course offers the student an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and attitude in teaching by using the principles of teaching and learning in classroom as well as in clinical setting. The Education Practicum is a cornerstone of the nursing program.

Course Objectives

At the end of this clinical course, students will be able to:

  • Develop lesson plan with clearly stated objectives, contents, teaching-learning activities, time and evaluation.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching performance in classroom as well as in clinical setting.
  • Use various audio visual aids appropriate to the topic.
  • Develop curriculum for a respective subject/group by identifying the resources needed for it.
  • Prepare evaluation tools to assess student learning in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Implement the principles of T/L while supervising the students in clinical areas.
  • Plan in-service education for health workers/coworkers.

Course Content Details

Teaching/Learning Activities

Under the guidance of the supervisor, each student-teacher will carryout the following activities:

  • Prepare teaching plan and implementation in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Development of curriculum (one unit) from the given subjects and presentation in the class.
  • Preparation and implementation of test construction tools in classroom setting.
  • Preparation and implementation of evaluation tools for clinical setting.
  • Preparation and use of varieties of AV aids in teaching/learning process to enhance learning.

Assessment/Evaluation Methods

Internal Assessment (75 marks)

  • Lesson plan and implementation
    • Class room: 4     (7.5 x 4 = 30 marks)
    • Clinical: 2     (7.5 x 2 = 15 marks)
  • Curriculum development and present in classroom (10 marks)
  • Test construction and implementation for classroom setting (8 marks)
  • Clinical (7 marks)
  • Preparation and submission one AV aids for final scoring (5 marks)

Final Evaluation (25 marks)

  • Oral examination
