Course Description
This course will provide opportunity to the student to carry out community diagnosis in the assigned area and conduct one community level health action by using epidemiological approaches in order to promote the health status of individual, family and group. This course also provides experiences to the student about the various local institutions where nurses care for people.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- Find out the services provided by the selected health related institution through observation visits.
- Carry out community diagnosis in the assigned community.
- Communicate effectively with all concerned in providing client-centered care.
- Prepare a list of the existing facilities in the community concerning environmental sanitation.
- Apply the epidemiological approaches in solving the identified problems.
- Carry out the responsibilities of a community health nurse in the health promotion of community people through environmental sanitation.

Course Content Details
Teaching/ Learning Activities
- Student will spend 2 weeks visiting different local institutions and writing group reports about the activities of each institution. This includes:
- Water treatment plant
- Factory (brick/cement/iron/metal)
- Municipality office/dumping site
- Sewage disposal plant
- Epidemiology Division, HMG/MОН.
- Students will be posted to concurrent field practice for 4 weeks in a rural community for community diagnosis and community action.
- A seminar will be held once a week during the clinical field practice.
Evaluation and Assessment
The evaluation for the Community Health Nursing Practicum is divided into internal and final assessments.
Internal Assessment (75%)
- Presentation of observation visit report in group – 10 marks
- Submission of the report of the community diagnosis in group – 20 marks
- Health action by using epidemiological approach (group assignment) – 20 marks
- Clinical performance – 20 marks
- Log book – 5 marks
Final Examination (25%)
- Oral examination.
