Course Description
This course, Family and Reproductive Health Nursing, is designed to provide theoretical knowledge for the provision of holistic care to the family including mothers, newborn and children. This course also deals with the concept of reproductive health services and family planning.
Course Objectives
Upon the completion of the course the students will be able to:
- Explain the concept of family health.
- Describe the role of nurse in family health nursing.
- Discuss the use of nursing process in family health care.
- Describe the components of reproductive health.
- Discuss the reproductive health care strategies for improving the health of mother and children.
- Discuss the situation of maternal and neonatal health in Nepal.
- Explain the concept of “Safe Motherhood” and “Saving Newborn Lives Program”.
- Describe the care of pregnant women, women in labour and care of postnatal mothers and newborn at different levels of health care facilities.
- Describe the essential obstetric care at different levels of health care facilities.
- State the objective, purpose and activities of MCH clinic.
- Explain the use of road to health card in monitoring the growth of children under the age of five.
- Explain the way of promoting nurse-client relationship.
- Describe the different methods and media that can be used in providing health education.
- Explain the concept of IMCI in management childhood illness.
- Define the terms related to risk approach to maternal and child health.
- Identify the common maternal newborn and childhood risk factors.
- Describe the role of nurse in screening and dealing with risk factors.
- State the indicators of vital and health statistics including their signification and measurement.
- State the various sources of statistical data in the country.
- Explain the concept of expanded programme of immunization (EPI).
- Describe the immunization given to mothers and children including their preparation, administration, side effects, indications and contraindications.
- State the different types of FP methods and their actions, precautions, side effects, advantages and disadvantages.
- Describe the role and responsibilities of the nurse in family planning clinic.
- Explain the process of counseling clients on family planning using “ABHIBADAN” technique.
- State the importance and use of community resources in solving community health problems.
