Class 11 NEB Notes and How to Score A+: A Guide for +2 Students in Nepal
You have passed SEE and now you are in Class 11. This is the year when many students get lost, because the course is much harder and no one pushes you. This page gives you free notes for every subject, tells you honestly which subjects are hard, and gives a plan to score A+. You will also find help choosing a college and the subjects that keep your future doors open.
- Pick a college near your room or home if it is good. You save travel money and study time.
- Start with old is gold: read model and old questions first, then the book. Marks come faster.
- Hardest subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Maths in Science; Accountancy and Economics in Management.
- Planning for engineering or MBBS? Start entrance preparation in Class 11. The CEE and IOE exams use Class 11 concepts.
- You rarely fail in Class 11, and a failed student usually gets a college re-exam (with a fee). But good marks still need hard work.

Science stream
Physics (भौतिक विज्ञान)
Chemistry (रसायन विज्ञान)
Biology (जीव विज्ञान)
Mathematics (गणित)
English (अंग्रेजी)
Nepali (नेपाली)
Computer Science (कम्प्युटर विज्ञान)
Physics (भौतिक विज्ञान) Hard
Physics explains forces, motion, heat, waves and electricity. Class 11 Physics is 100 marks in total. It is a numerical-heavy subject.
How to get A+: Understand each formula before using it. Solve at least five numericals per chapter and do not skip practicals, because lab marks affect your grade.
Chemistry (रसायन विज्ञान) Hard
Chemistry mixes physical, inorganic and organic parts. Class 11 Chemistry is 100 marks and covers three broad areas.
How to get A+: Learn equations by writing them, make a one-page table for periodic trends, and practise numericals regularly. Practical marks matter.
Biology (जीव विज्ञान) Medium to Hard
Class 11 Biology is the third subject of the Biology group. It is split equally between Botany and Zoology and has many diagrams and terms. NEB asks Biology students to use separate answer sheets for Botany and Zoology.
How to get A+: Make labelled diagrams again and again. Use flashcards for terms, and revise after each class, not only before the test.
Mathematics (गणित) Hard
Maths is compulsory for Science students. It covers algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus basics and more. You cannot score by reading. You must solve.
How to get A+: Do every example and exercise, keep a formula sheet and practise past questions with a timer.
English (अंग्रेजी) Easy to Medium
Compulsory English tests reading, writing and literature. It is a scoring subject if you practise writing.
How to get A+: Learn the answer pattern for each writing task and write one passage a week.
Nepali (नेपाली) Easy to Medium
Compulsory Nepali has literature, grammar and writing. Marks are lost mostly through weak spelling and format.
How to get A+: Learn grammar rules, practise essays and revise the literature summaries.
Computer Science (कम्प्युटर विज्ञान) Medium
Computer Science is the third subject of the Physical group. It combines theory and programming, and the programming part needs real practice on a computer.
How to get A+: Write the programs yourself and test them. Learn definitions for the theory section.
Management stream
Account (लेखाशास्त्र)
Economics (अर्थशास्त्र)
Business Studies (व्यवसाय अध्ययन)
Hotel Management (होटल व्यवस्थापन)
Social (सामाजिक)
Account (लेखाशास्त्र) Medium
Accountancy teaches how to record business money in a correct format. It is logical and neat.
How to get A+: Solve full problems every day and keep a tidy layout. One small total mistake can break the whole answer.
Economics (अर्थशास्त्र) Medium
Economics explains demand, supply, cost and markets, with many graphs and definitions.
How to get A+: Draw graphs with labels and learn definitions exactly. Connect each graph to a real example.
Business Studies (व्यवसाय अध्ययन) Easy to Medium
Business Studies is mostly theory about how businesses are formed and run.
How to get A+: Learn headings and points, and write answers in clear points rather than long paragraphs.
Hotel Management (होटल व्यवस्थापन) Easy to Medium
Hotel Management covers the working of hotels, front office, housekeeping and food service.
How to get A+: Learn terms and procedures. If your college gives practical training, take it seriously.
Social (सामाजिक) Easy to Medium
Social is a reading-based subject. It does not need heavy practice, but it needs regular revision.
How to get A+: Make short notes and practise answers in points. Do not leave it for the last night, because it is a subject many students ignore.
What Class 11 is really like
Class 11 is a different game from Class 10. The books are thicker, the ideas are deeper, and nobody chases you to study. Most students lose marks in the first few months, then wake up. This guide helps you avoid that.
What changes from Class 10
- Science and Maths go much deeper. A student who just passed with low marks in SEE Maths and Science will find Class 11 Science very hard.
- There are practical marks in many subjects, and they count in your grade.
- Your subject choices now decide which entrance exams you can sit after Class 12.
- You manage your own time. College teachers will not check your notebook every day.
How to choose a Class 11 college
Pick a college close to your room or home
If a good college is near, choose it. You save travel money and, more important, travel time. If you travel one hour each way, you lose about two hours of study every day, and that is hundreds of hours over two years. A tired student on a crowded bus does not study well in the evening.
If you do not live in a big city, check if you can rent a room near the college with friends. Add the room, food and travel costs together and compare it with a nearby college that has a slightly higher fee.
Before you pay, ask these questions
- What is the total fee for two years, including exam, lab and extra fees?
- Do the Science labs work, and will you do all practicals yourself?
- What was the last batch’s pass rate and how many students got above 3.0?
- Are classes regular, and does the college hold unit tests?
- Is a scholarship possible for your SEE GPA?
Talk to students who are one year ahead. Ask them which teachers they trust and which subjects the college is weak in. This is more useful than any brochure.
Streams, eligibility and choosing subjects
Eligibility in short
| Stream | Usual SEE rule | Subjects |
|---|---|---|
| Science | GPA 2.0 with C+ in Science and Maths (NEB criteria), D+ in English, Nepali, Social | Compulsory English, Nepali, Maths + 3 optional. Physical group: Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science. Biology group: Physics, Chemistry, Biology |
| Management | GPA 1.6 with D+ in English, Nepali, Maths, Science, Social | Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Hotel Management and similar |
| Humanities, Education, Law | GPA 1.6 with D+ in the listed subjects | Sociology, Psychology, History, Political Science, Education subjects, Law subjects |
A 2022 notice said GPA 1.6 may be enough for any subject, but 2026 guides still list GPA 2.0 and C+ for Science. Confirm with the college and NEB for your year.
Decide with the end in mind
Many students choose their optional subjects without checking what comes after +2. Check these now:
| If you want | You need in +2 |
|---|---|
| Engineering (IOE) or Architecture | Physics, Chemistry and Maths studied. IOE asks at least 45% aggregate (or C grade) and these subjects, so confirm the current notice |
| MBBS and other medical degrees (MECEE-BL) | Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50% or 2.4 CGPA, and often C+ in the three core subjects |
| BBA, BBM, BITM, BHM (TU CMAT) | CGPA 1.8 or more with D in theory and C in practical in every subject, or second division. Any stream |
| BCA | Any of Science, Management or Humanities |
Maths is compulsory for every Science student, so your main choice is the third optional subject: Computer Science (Physical group) or Biology (Biology group). If you want MBBS or other health degrees, you need Biology. If you plan engineering, check the IOE notice for the subjects it asks for. Think about this before you submit the form.
Planning for engineering or MBBS? Start in Class 11
If you want to study engineering or MBBS after +2, you must pass an entrance exam. So think about the entrance from the first day of Class 11, not after Class 12.
- Class 11 concepts are used in the entrance. Questions in the CEE (the MBBS entrance, also called MECEE-BL) and the IOE exam use ideas from Class 11 as well as Class 12. If your Class 11 base is weak, Class 12 becomes very hard.
- Do not spend the year only on lab reports. Practical marks and lab reports count in your grade, so finish them on time. But use the rest of your time to understand concepts, not just to fill the days.
- Learn the concept, not only the answer. Both entrance exams are MCQ based and test understanding, so solve MCQs after every chapter.
A simple timeline
Class 12 exams were held from Baisakh 14 to Baisakh 27 in 2083, and results came on Asadh 5, 2083. Entrance forms for engineering, CMAT and other programs opened soon after. That means the real clock starts in Class 11.
- Class 11, first half: build basics and study habits. Learn each concept properly.
- Class 11, second half: read about entrance exams (IOE, CEE or MECEE-BL, CMAT, BCA, IOST) and decide your goal.
- Class 12: do both board syllabus and entrance practice together. Entrance MCQs are based on Class 11 and 12 topics.
Which Class 11 subjects are hard?
Hard depends on you, but these subjects usually need the most daily practice:
| Stream | Hardest to score | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Science | Physics, Chemistry, Maths | Numericals, equations and long problems | Solve a little every day, not a lot once a week |
| Science | Biology | Many terms and diagrams | Draw diagrams, use flashcards |
| Management | Accountancy, Economics | Layout, totals and graphs | Practise full problems and neat graphs |
Science students should also remember that Class 11 Science is much harder than SEE. If your SEE Maths and Science were just at the minimum, plan extra practice from week one.
How to score A+ in Class 11
Old is gold: start with questions, not the book
This is the trick that makes everything easier. In the first month, get the NEB model questions and old college questions for each subject. Read them first. You will see the pattern, the repeated chapters and the type of answers that earn marks. Then read the textbook with those questions in your mind. Students who do this usually find the book much lighter, and they start scoring early.
NEB publishes model questions for each Class 11 subject, and your college and local government usually follow a similar pattern for the board exam, so do not skip any model paper.
A simple weekly plan
- Weekdays: revise what the teacher taught the same day, 45 minutes per subject at most.
- One day a week: solve one full old paper of one subject on a timer.
- Every Saturday: check your mistakes and write them in a small notebook.
- Before exams: do three full papers per subject and fix weak chapters.
Do not waste practical marks
Practical marks count in your grade. Physics and Chemistry practicals can affect your GPA strongly. Attend lab, write the file neatly and learn to explain each experiment, not just copy it.
Common mistakes
- Leaving all study until exam month.
- Following a friend’s subject choice instead of your own goal.
- Using many books and finishing none.
- Ignoring English, Nepali and the easy subjects, which can pull down your GPA.
The government announced a ban on entrance preparation and bridge-course classes for students up to Grade 12 from Baisakh 1, 2083. Check what your college is allowed to offer, and do not rely on a paid shortcut. Self-study with model questions works.
Grading, re-exams and promotion to Class 12
Class 11 and 12 use the same NEB grade table as SEE.
| Marks | Grade | Grade point |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | A+ | 4.0 |
| 80 to below 90 | A | 3.6 |
| 70 to below 80 | B+ | 3.2 |
| 60 to below 70 | B | 2.8 |
| 50 to below 60 | C+ | 2.4 |
| 40 to below 50 | C | 2.0 |
| 35 and above | D | 1.6 |
| Below 35 | NG | No grade |
You need at least 35 marks in a subject to avoid NG.
Can you fail in Class 11?
Students rarely fail in Class 11. If you do fail, the college usually takes a re-exam and passes you, but you must pay the re-exam fee. Rules can differ by college, and NEB also runs grade increment exams, so ask your college how it works for your batch.
To just pass, a minimum of study is enough. To get good marks, you need to work very hard. Do not relax just because failing is rare.
Class 11 marks do not decide your final Class 12 GPA, but they are your practice round for the Class 12 board exam. Treat them seriously.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Class 11 subject is the hardest?
In Science, most students find Physics, Chemistry and Maths hardest because they need steady numerical practice. In Management, Accountancy and Economics need practice with problems and graphs. Hard is personal, but all of these improve with daily practice.
How can I get A+ in Class 11?
Start with model and old questions to learn the pattern, then study the book. Revise the same day, practise one full paper each week, do not skip practical, and fix a mistake notebook. A+ needs 90 marks or more in each subject.
Should I start entrance preparation in Class 11?
Yes, if you plan engineering or MBBS. Both need an entrance exam, and the CEE (MBBS entrance, also called MECEE-BL) and the IOE exam use concepts from Class 11. Learn each Class 11 chapter properly and solve MCQs after every chapter. Finish your lab reports on time, but do not spend all your spare time on them.
Can I fail in Class 11?
Students rarely fail in Class 11. If you do, the college usually takes a re-exam and passes you, but you must pay the re-exam fee. NEB also runs grade increment exams, so ask your college how it works for your batch. Passing needs only minimum study, but good marks need hard work.
Should I choose a college near my room or a famous college far away?
If the nearby college is good enough, choose it. You save travel money and a lot of study time. If the far college is much better, compare the total cost and travel time first.
Why are the first marks low in Class 11?
The course is much deeper than Class 10 and many students are not used to self-study. Start practising old questions in the first month, and marks usually improve fast.
Which subjects should I choose in +2 Science?
Every Science student studies English, Nepali and Maths. Then you choose a group: Physical group (Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science) or Biology group (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). Take the Biology group if you want MBBS or other health degrees. If you plan engineering, check the IOE notice for the subjects it asks for. Choose based on the career you want.
What is the minimum GPA for +2 Science?
NEB criteria list GPA 2.0 with C+ in Science and Maths. Many private colleges ask for about 2.8 or more. Ask your college and check the latest NEB notice.
Are entrance preparation classes allowed in Class 11?
A government decision bans entrance preparation and bridge courses for students up to Grade 12 from Baisakh 1, 2083. Reports say tests like IELTS and TOEFL are not covered. Use self-study and model questions.
