SEE Class 10 Notes and Life After SEE: A Simple Guide for Nepali Students
Class 10 is the first big exam in your life, and a lot of students feel lost about two things: how to score well, and what to do next. This page has both. First you will find free notes for every SEE subject, with honest talk about which subjects are hard and how to get A+. Then you will find what to do after the result: which +2 stream to join, how scholarships work, and what CTEVT offers.
- Best way to start: practise with Ten SET (past year questions with solutions), then read the book.
- Maths and Science need daily practice. They also decide whether you can take +2 Science.
- You can study +2 free through a scholarship exam. KMC’s has 100 MCQs and a pass mark of 40.
- Want to be an engineer? Choose +2 Science, then BE: 2 + 4 = 6 years. CTEVT diploma, then BE: 3 + 4 = 7 years. A CTEVT diploma makes you a sub-engineer.

Compulsory subjects
English (अंग्रेजी)
Nepali (नेपाली)
Social Studies (सामाजिक अध्ययन)
C. Mathematics (अनिवार्य गणित)
Science (विज्ञान)
Optional subjects
Computer (कम्प्युटर)
Account (लेखाशास्त्र)
Economics (अर्थशास्त्र)
Optional Math (ऐच्छिक गणित)
Optional II Education (शिक्षा)
Every SEE student sits the five compulsory subjects. On top of that you take the optional subjects your school offers. Ask your school which optional papers you are registered for before you start planning.
Each subject in simple words, and how to get A+
Here is a plain talk on each subject: what it is about, how hard it feels, and one thing that helps most.
English (अंग्रेजी) Medium
English is mostly reading, writing and grammar, plus the stories and poems in your book. Many students lose marks on writing tasks, not on the textbook.
How to get A+: Learn the format of each writing task (letter, essay, report, story) and practise one every week. Then solve at least five papers from Ten SET with a timer.
Nepali (नेपाली) Medium
Nepali is language, grammar (vyakaran) and literature. It looks easy, but spelling and grammar rules cost marks if you rush.
How to get A+: Revise vyakaran rules in a small notebook and write essays and letters in the exact format. Check spelling every time.
Open Nepali notesOpen Nepali Vyakaran notes
Social Studies (सामाजिक अध्ययन) Easy to Medium
Social Studies covers geography, history, civics and society. There is a lot to read, but nothing is very hard to understand.
How to get A+: Make short notes with dates, names and places. Use maps. Practise long answers in points, because points are easy for a checker to mark.
C. Mathematics (अनिवार्य गणित) Hard for many
Compulsory Maths is a practice subject. You cannot learn it by reading. If you do the sums yourself, it becomes one of the easiest places to get full marks.
How to get A+: Do every example in the book, then every exercise, then Ten SET questions. Write all steps, because marks are given for steps. Mistakes in basic algebra and arithmetic are the usual problem, so fix these first.
Science (विज्ञान) Hard for many
Science mixes physics, chemistry and biology. Numericals, chemical equations and diagrams all need regular practice.
How to get A+: Draw each diagram until you can do it without looking. Learn equations by writing them. Do numericals every day for 20 minutes instead of one long session before the exam.
Computer (कम्प्युटर) Easy to Medium
Computer is part theory and part practical work. Theory is easy to score if you learn definitions and short differences.
How to get A+: Practise the practical work on a real computer if you can. Do not skip the practical marks.
Account (लेखाशास्त्र) Medium
Account is basic bookkeeping. It is neat and logical, and students who like order usually do well.
How to get A+: Practise full problems from start to end and keep your layout tidy. Small mistakes in totals ruin the whole sum.
Economics (अर्थशास्त्र) Easy to Medium
Economics explains how people, money and markets work, with many definitions and short reasons.
How to get A+: Learn definitions word for word and then practise reasons and examples in your own words.
Optional Math (ऐच्छिक गणित) Hard
Optional Maths goes deeper than compulsory Maths and is better for students who want Science later.
How to get A+: Take it only if you enjoy maths. Practise a few hard questions daily instead of many easy ones.
Optional II Education (शिक्षा) Easy to Medium
Education is a reading-and-writing subject about learning and teaching.
How to get A+: Make short answers in points and revise with past questions.
Open Optional II Education notes
The difficulty labels above are a general guide, not a survey. Hard or easy depends on you. The one rule that fits almost every student: Maths and Science need daily practice, and they also decide whether you can choose +2 Science later (see the Life after SEE section).
How SEE grading and GPA work
SEE results come in grades and a GPA out of 4.0. The scale below is the NEB grade table for SEE, Class 11 and Class 12.
| Marks | Grade | Grade point |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | A+ | 4.0 |
| 80 to below 90 | A | 3.6 |
| 70 to below 80 | B+ | 3.2 |
| 60 to below 70 | B | 2.8 |
| 50 to below 60 | C+ | 2.4 |
| 40 to below 50 | C | 2.0 |
| 35 to below 40 | D | 1.6 |
| Below 35 | NG (Not Graded) | No GPA |
Your GPA is the total of all grade points divided by the number of subjects. Example: five subjects with grade points that add to 17.2 give a GPA of 3.44.
In most subjects the paper is 100 marks, with about 25 marks from internal work (class work, tests and project or practical) and 75 from the final written paper. Do not waste the internal 25. They are the easiest marks in the whole exam.
If you score below 35 in a subject you get NG in that subject. NG students cannot go straight to Class 11, but they can sit the grade increment exam (purak pariksha) and join +2 if they pass.
How to score A+ in SEE: a study plan that works
Start with Ten SET
Ten SET is the Class 10 old question collection: past year question papers with answer set solutions. Begin your practice with it. You will see the pattern in a day: which chapters repeat, how long answers should be, and how marks are split. This is the fastest way to start getting marks, and it makes the textbook easier to read afterwards.
A simple 4-step plan
- Finish the textbook once. Read it with a pen. Underline definitions and rules.
- Do Ten SET by subject. Do not wait for the last month.
- Fix weak chapters first. Keep a list of mistakes and check it every week.
- Sit full papers on a timer. Three hours, no phone. Then check your own answers honestly.
Habits that really work
- Study Maths and Science every day, even for 30 minutes.
- Write answers in points and use headings. Clean pages score better.
- Do not skip internal work and practical. They are free marks.
- Sleep well in exam week. A tired brain makes silly mistakes.
- Do not copy what your friend studies. Fix your own weak areas.
Life after SEE: +2 streams, CTEVT and more
After SEE you have four main roads. None is the best for everyone. Pick the one that fits your GPA, your interest and your family budget.
| Path | Time | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| +2 (Class 11 and 12) in Science, Management, Humanities, Education or Law | 2 years | Students who want a university degree later |
| CTEVT technical diploma (Civil, Computer, Electrical, Health and more) | 3 years | Students who want a technical skill and an early job as a sub-engineer or technician. A CTEVT diploma is equal to +2 |
| TSLC or short skill courses | About 18 months or less | Students who need work quickly |
| A-Level | 2 years | Students planning to study abroad, usually with higher cost |
Which GPA do you need for +2?
| Stream | Usual minimum | Reality check |
|---|---|---|
| Science | NEB criteria list GPA 2.0 with C+ in Science and Maths, and D+ in English, Nepali and Social | Many popular private colleges ask for 2.8 or more, plus their own entrance |
| Management | GPA 1.6 with D+ in English, Nepali, Maths, Science and Social | Some good colleges ask for about 2.4 or more |
| Humanities and Education | GPA 1.6 with D+ in English, Nepali and Social | The most flexible streams |
In 2022 the education council said students with GPA 1.6 could study any subject. Many 2026 college guides still list GPA 2.0 and C+ for Science. Before you pay any fee, ask the college and check the latest NEB notice for your year.
What you study in each +2 stream
- Science: English, Nepali and Basic Mathematics are compulsory. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are compulsory science subjects. Computer Science and Biology are optional (choose Biology if you want MBBS or other health degrees).
- Management: Accountancy, Economics, Business Studies, Hotel Management and similar subjects.
- Humanities: subjects like Sociology, Psychology, History, Political Science and Geography. It leads to BA, law, journalism, social work and public administration.
Next steps after +2 Science, Management and Humanities
| Stream | Common next degrees |
|---|---|
| Science | Engineering (BE or BArch), MBBS and other health degrees, BSc CSIT, BIT, BCA, BSc |
| Management | BBS, BBA, BBM, BCA, BITM, BHM, and the Chartered Accountancy path |
| Humanities | BA, law, journalism and mass communication, social work, public administration, psychology |

CTEVT diploma after SEE
CTEVT diploma programs usually run three years after SEE with a minimum GPA of 1.6. Popular ones include Civil, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and health programs such as Pharmacy, Lab Technician and Staff Nurse. Apply online through the CTEVT portal (ctevt.org.np). Reports say CTEVT stopped entrance exams in 2025 and now selects by SEE marks, but some institutes still post exam notices, so read the CTEVT notice for your program.
A CTEVT diploma is equal to +2. After a 3-year engineering diploma you become a sub-engineer, not an engineer. To become an engineer you still need a bachelor degree (BE).
+2 Science (2 years) + BE (4 years) = 6 years. CTEVT diploma (3 years) + BE (4 years) = 7 years. IOE entrance questions are based on the +2 Science course, so +2 Science students are better prepared. Diploma holders with at least 45% marks can also sit the IOE entrance, but the route takes one year longer.
Entrance exams and free study after SEE
Is there any way to study +2 for free after SEE?
Yes. The usual way is a scholarship that you win by passing an entrance or scholarship exam, or by scoring a very high GPA. Here are the real options.
1. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) scholarship exam
| Item | Details (from KMC notices) |
|---|---|
| Level | Class 11 and Class 12, all streams (Science, Management, Humanities, Education, Law, Technical) |
| Form | Online at entrance.kathmandu.gov.np. Application was free in the 2081 notice |
| Exam | 100 multiple choice questions, 8:00 to 10:00 AM. Pass mark is 40 out of 100 |
| Who can apply | SEE passed with minimum GPA 1.6, and you studied SEE in a community school (or in a private school on a 10% scholarship, with a recommendation) |
| Latest exam | Held on Jestha 17, 2083, and the result is published |
Notices usually come after the SEE result, so keep your SEE admit card, marksheet and character certificate ready. Seat numbers change each year, so read the current notice.
Practice KMC scholarship questions
Try these sample question sets before the exam:
2. College and school scholarships
Many private colleges give fee discounts or full scholarships to students with A+ in SEE or a top rank in their own entrance. Each college has its own rules, so ask the college for its scholarship policy in writing.
3. Other scholarship programs
Some local governments, such as Lalitpur Metropolitan City, also run scholarship programs for +2 students. Programs open and close every year, so check the notice on the official website of your municipality.
What is in the entrance exam?
College and scholarship entrance exams are based on the Class 10 course, so your SEE notes and Ten SET are your best preparation. The exact syllabus is printed in each notice. KMC uses 100 multiple choice questions. Many colleges use a similar pattern, but time and marks differ.
Solve model MCQs of Maths, Science, English, Nepali and Social, and the KMC practice sets above. Practise speed: 100 questions in 120 minutes means about one minute per question. Time yourself.
The Ministry of Education announced a ban on entrance preparation and bridge-course classes for students up to Grade 12 from Baisakh 1, 2083. Reports say preparation for exams like IELTS, TOEFL and GRE is not covered. Do not pay for such classes. Use your SEE notes and Ten SET instead.
How to choose your Class 11 college
Choose a college you can reach easily
If you can find a good college near your room or home, that is usually a smart choice. You save travel money and, more important, travel time. One hour each way is two hours lost every day. Over two years that is a lot of study.
Quick checklist
- Total fee for two years, including exam, lab and bus fees (ask for it in writing).
- Do they have a lab and a library, and do they use them?
- How many of the last batch passed, and how many got above 3.0?
- Are teachers regular? Ask senior students.
- Your stream, plus the optional subjects you want, are available.
Be ready for a bigger jump
Class 11 books are thicker and the course is harder than Class 10, especially in Science. Many students find marks lower at first. Start using old questions in the first month of Class 11 and you will settle faster. Read the Class 11 guide before you join.
What to do after your SEE result: step by step
Here is a safe order after the SEE result comes out. Dates can change, so follow each notice.
- Check your result and marksheet. The online result is published by NEB. Check your SEE result here. Your school gives the printed marksheet, which colleges need.
- If you are unhappy with a mark, ask about retotaling quickly, because the window is short.
- Shortlist 3 to 5 colleges using the checklist above and visit them.
- Apply for scholarships and entrance exams. Colleges start putting admission notices within about two weeks of the result.
- If you got NG, NEB announces the grade increment exam a few weeks after the result. Prepare for it right away.
- Choose your stream and optional subjects carefully. Changing later is hard, and your choice affects the entrance exams you can sit.
The latest SEE result was published on Baisakh 28, 2083 (May 11, 2026).
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get A+ in SEE?
Finish the textbook once, then practise with Ten SET (past year questions with solutions) and model questions subject by subject. Do not skip internal marks (about 25 of 100). Fix your weakest chapters first, and sit full timed papers in the last month.
What is Ten SET?
Ten SET is the Class 10 (SEE) old question collection: past year question papers with answer set solutions. You can open the solutions here: Ten SET solutions.
Which SEE subject is the hardest?
Many students find Compulsory Maths and Science hardest because they need daily practice, and they also decide your +2 Science options. Optional Maths is harder than Compulsory Maths. Hard is personal, so check which subject your own marks fall in.
What is the minimum GPA to study +2 Science after SEE?
The NEB criteria listed on student portals say GPA 2.0 with C+ in Science and Maths, and D+ in English, Nepali and Social. A 2022 notice said 1.6 could be enough for any subject, but 2026 college guides still show 2.0. Many popular private colleges ask for about 2.8 or more, so ask your college and check the latest NEB notice.
What is the minimum GPA for +2 Management?
Most colleges ask for 1.6, with D+ in English, Nepali, Maths, Science and Social Studies. Some competitive colleges ask for about 2.4 or more.
Should I do a CTEVT diploma or +2 Science to become an engineer?
Choose +2 Science. +2 Science (2 years) plus BE (4 years) takes 6 years, while a CTEVT diploma (3 years) plus BE takes 7 years. A CTEVT diploma alone makes you a sub-engineer, not an engineer. IOE entrance questions are also based on the +2 Science course.
Can I study for free after SEE if I pass an entrance exam?
Yes, through scholarships. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City scholarship exam has 100 MCQs and a pass mark of 40, and it is for students with minimum GPA 1.6 who studied in community schools. Many private colleges also give discounts or free seats to toppers. Rules and seat numbers change each year, so read the current notice.
Is there an entrance exam for CTEVT diploma after SEE?
Reports say CTEVT stopped entrance exams in 2025 and selects by SEE marks through its online system. Some institutes still post exam notices, so read the CTEVT notice for your program.
What should I choose after SEE: Science, Management or Humanities?
There is no single best stream. Science needs strong Maths and Science marks and leads to engineering and medical fields. Management suits students who like accounts, business and computers. Humanities is the most flexible and leads to BA, law, journalism and social work. Pick by interest and GPA, not by what friends choose.
What if I get NG in SEE?
NG means below 35 in a subject. You can appear in the grade increment exam, and if you pass you can join +2. NEB announces the date a few weeks after the main result.
Are entrance preparation classes allowed after SEE?
The Ministry of Education announced a ban on entrance preparation and bridge courses for students up to Grade 12 from Baisakh 1, 2083. Reports say preparation for tests such as IELTS and TOEFL is not included. Use your own notes and Ten SET.
How should I choose a +2 college?
Look at total fees, distance, lab and library, past results and teachers. A college near your home or room saves travel time and money. Ask senior students before you pay.
Sources and where to check
Rules, dates and fees in Nepal change often. Always confirm with the official notice before you pay any form fee.
